- Information regarding routine pelvic exams: It is important to refrain from sexual intercourse, douching, and any intra-vaginal medications for at least 48 hours before your exam. When you schedule your appointment, please indicate to the secretary or nurse if this is a repeat yearly exam, your first exam, and/or you have a particularly urgent problem.
A Health Center provider will perform the physical examination, and one of the health center nurses will assist. The physical examination is free. All lab specimens will be submitted to the lab you had indicated on your insurance form. We will notify you with the results.
All sexually active women are encouraged to have a cotton swab culture of the cervix to check for chlamydia and gonorrhea. Both diseases can be completely without symptoms and untreated chlamydia is the number one cause of infertility in this country.
To provide more privacy, all pelvic exams are performed on the second floor of the Bailey Health Center facing McCartney Street.
