Zika Virus

Lafayette College continues to monitor the Zika virus outbreak and key stakeholders on campus have met to discuss and implement a number of strategies for our campus if the virus outbreak impacts our community in the future. There have not been any locally transmitted cases in the region, however one person has tested positive after traveling to an area where the virus is prevalent. If you plan to travel to areas where the virus is common please take appropriate insect precautions, and contact your health care provider if you become ill. The risk of developing serious symptoms from this virus is very low, however the concern for pregnant individuals is that Zika is linked to birth defects and there is a travel alert for pregnant women or women trying to become pregnant.
